The John Cooper Associates partnership was founded in 1993 by John Cooper and Jo Maddocks. John’s personal experiences of career guidance, and his early career in high street retail sales and management, led to a passion in developing the best management behaviours and leadership climates.
Their partnership was sparked over a shared interest in business/occupational psychology and admiration for the positive, practical changes that psychometrics and training solutions can make in career guidance. The shared aim that came from this, which has been the driving force of JCA since the very beginning, was to help organisations get the best out of their people.
Finding our mission and defining our future
In 1999, with the purpose in mind of making real a difference and creating a legacy, JCA investigated the existing application of humanistic psychology and Emotional Intelligence in the workplace, with a view to driving better results.
Over time, we have honed our thinking and practices to deliver transformational impact and sustainable outcomes, channelled via the establishment of our own Emotional Intelligence tools and transformational development programmes.

At the end of 2003, JCA Occupational Psychologists Ltd was born. Over the next few years we developed a product strategy and commitment to become a world leader in the application of EI to organisations to enable sustainable performance and enable organisation to get the best form those people in a sustainable way.

In 2013, JCA established key delivery partners in India, Singapore, New Zealand, Italy, Finland, Brazil and South Africa. JCA scaled into an international people development and business psychology consultancy with a unique reputation for improving business performance through applied Emotional Intelligence.
In 2015 JCA’s clients include well known global brands such as Thomas Cook, Barclays, Santander, Balfour Beatty and The NHS. In 2015 JCA won the coveted Civil Service 2015 award for our EI programmes with DSTL.
